Electrical Safety

Course overview

Electricity powers virtually every aspect of our working lives, keeping our devices, machinery, and infrastructure running smoothly. Yet, because it is invisible, silent, and odourless, it represents one of the most significant hidden hazards in the workplace. Without proper awareness, simple everyday tasks involving electrical equipment can lead to severe injuries or fatal accidents.

Our comprehensive Electrical Safety eLearning course is designed to demystify the dangers of electricity and provide your workforce with the practical knowledge needed to stay safe. From understanding fundamental electrical principles to recognising warning signs and managing equipment maintenance, this digital training package transforms a complex subject into engaging, life-saving lessons. It provides your business with an efficient, fully compliant way to protect your staff and reduce the risk of electrical incidents.

Recommended System Requirements

To ensure a smooth, uninterrupted multimedia learning experience, please verify that your digital setup meets the following minimum criteria:

  • Browser: The latest version of a secure web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
  • Video: Up-to-date graphics and video drivers.
  • Memory: A minimum of 1GB RAM or higher.
  • Download Speed: A stable broadband connection with speeds of 3Mbps+.

Who Is This Course Suitable For?

Electrical hazards are not confined to electricians or engineers; they exist in almost every professional environment. This training is highly recommended for:

  • General Employees: Office workers, retail staff, and hospitality personnel who interact daily with computers, kitchen appliances, and extension leads.
  • Facilities and Maintenance Teams: Staff responsible for overseeing building upkeep, setting up workspaces, or handling minor equipment adjustments.
  • Health and Safety Officers: Professionals looking to refresh their knowledge of UK compliance standards and risk management strategies.
  • Managers and Supervisors: Individuals responsible for implementing safety protocols, organising equipment testing, and overseeing workplace well-being.

What Learners Will Gain

By completing this comprehensive online module, participants will be able to:

  • Deconstruct Electrical Basics: Define core concepts such as voltage, current, and resistance, and differentiate between the primary types of electrical currents.
  • Identify Workplace Hazards: Use straightforward, memorable frameworks to spot potential dangers before they result in an incident.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Act swiftly, confidently, and safely to help a colleague suspected of suffering from an electric shock without putting themselves at risk.
  • Navigate UK Legislation: Understand the key statutory regulations, official guidance, and safety standards governing electrical use at work.
  • Manage Equipment Safety: Recognise the crucial role of routine maintenance plans and visual checks in preventing equipment failure.

Benefits of Electrical Safety Training

Implementing this structured training programme brings substantial advantages to your organisation:

  • Reduced Workplace Risks: Educated staff are far less likely to misuse equipment, drastically cutting down the probability of shocks, burns, or electrical fires.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrates your organisation's commitment to fulfilling duties under UK health and safety laws, protecting you from costly liabilities.
  • Proactive Safety Culture: Empowers your workforce to take ownership of their surroundings, reporting damaged cables or faulty appliances early.
  • Minimised Downtime: Preventing electrical failures means fewer unexpected power disruptions, protecting expensive hardware and maintaining business continuity.

Flexible Online Learning

We know that fitting training into a busy working day can be a challenge. Our Electrical Safety eLearning course offers total flexibility, allowing users to study at their own pace, on any device, and at any time.

The course features high-quality video content paired with interactive checkpoints that reinforce key concepts. Learners can pause their session whenever necessary and resume exactly where they left off, making it an ideal solution for remote, hybrid, or shift-based teams.

Certificate Validity

Upon successfully passing the final course assessment, learners will be issued a digital certificate.

This certification is valid for 1 year. With safety standards evolving and technical knowledge naturally fading over time, we strongly recommend annual refresher training. Keeping certificates up to date ensures your team remains aligned with current UK legislation, best practices, and your company's internal risk control procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this course cover Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)? Yes. The training introduces the concepts of portable appliance testing, explains why it is necessary, and outlines who within an organisation is qualified to undertake these essential checks.

Can this training be completed on a mobile phone? Absolutely. The platform is fully optimised for mobile devices, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers, allowing your team to learn on the move or at their desks.

What happens if a learner does not pass the test first time? There is no need to worry. Learners can review the course content with up to three attempts at each module. If they fail a module for the third time, the module will become locked and our admin team would need to reset the module for them. We can only allow 3 resets in total, however if the learner was to fail on these additional attempts, then the course would be marked as failed.

How does electricity cause harm to the human body? The course details how electrical currents interact with the body, explaining the mechanisms behind muscle spasms, severe burns, and internal tissue damage, highlighting why immediate, safe intervention is critical.

Conclusion

Ignoring electrical safety can have devastating consequences, but most workplace incidents are entirely preventable with the right knowledge. Enrolling your workforce in our Electrical Safety eLearning course is an investment in their health, well-being, and security. Equip your team with the insights they need to spot hidden dangers, handle emergencies, and maintain a secure working environment today.
